DESCRIPTION
The Director of Institutional Research leads the Office of Institutional Research in providing support for strategic decision-making by the senior leadership of the UW Bothell. Reporting to the Chancellor, the Director serves as a resource to the Chancellor’s Executive Team, academic units and support services at the UW Bothell, by providing analytical support for integrated institutional planning, budgeting, policy development, and assessments. The Director will coordinate the development of planning metrics and institutional strategies regarding data analytics and assessment plans in support of institutional decision-making in areas of enrollment management and long range sustainable budgeting.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
Leadership (25%):
• Play pivotal coordinative role in a campus alliance for data and analytics management that includes broad representation from faculty, staff, and students in areas such as academic affairs, student affairs, information technologies, enrollment management, advancement, planning and budgeting, and institutional research and assessment.
• Partner strategically and tactically with faculty and staff in units across campus to coordinate and appropriately systematize the gathering, storing, analysis, and dissemination of data and data analysis results in order to further UW Bothell’s strategic goals.
• Build out UW Bothell’s capacity for effective, high-quality, and impactful longitudinal assessment of progress on unit and institutional goals.
• Provide leadership in nurturing a campus culture of assessment and fact-based decision-making.

Decision support for integrated academic health, budgeting, and planning (20%):
• Work closely with campus leaders across units in providing guidance and direction for the future evolution and development of the campus.
• Analyze data and develop reports that will guide the implementation of UW Bothell's strategic plan and the maintenance and development of degree programs consistent with need and demand.
• Work closely with and provide data to the Office of Institutional Planning & Budget to support the campus budget model and funding allocations.
• Balance (a) responding to data requests with (b) proactively providing data and analysis to help highlight key patterns and trends across units.
• Ensure that data and research support is provided to faculty, staff, and committees, as required by senior leadership.

Institutional analysis, research and development (20%):
• In collaboration with other senior leadership, create and oversee a campus-wide assessment plan.
• Plan, organize, interpret and disseminate findings (quantitative and qualitative) of campus-wide assessments.
• Support the UW Bothell campus in accreditation efforts, both at the academic program and at the campus level.
• Conduct statistical and/or qualitative research studies focusing on student recruitment, enrollment, retention, mobility, admissions, and financial aid.
• Select, adapt, and apply appropriate research design and analysis tools to areas of study, which include but are not limited to staffing patterns, accreditation, student outcomes and follow-up, student and staff characteristics, enrollment management, data integrity, and state and federal reporting requirements.
• Support the development of institutional infrastructural grants.

Data Management and Reporting (20%):
• Participate in the design and development of a data warehouse for institutional data.
• Design, manage, and coordinate a system for the collection and curation of longitudinal data from many sources to be used for assessment and planning purposes.
• Develop reports and research projects to facilitate campus- and unit-level decision-making in the pursuit of attaining strategic and operational goals.
• Help ensure that reports and results of research are widely disseminated and available, perhaps beyond the requester, to maximize value.
• Aid the campus in thinking broadly and robustly about creating data systems that answer a variety of questions from multiple stakeholders.
• Represent UW Bothell on the University of Washington data governance board and other tri-campus Institutional Research groups.
• Collaborate and coordinate with UW Seattle Office of Planning & Budgeting (Institutional Analysis group) to ensure accurate and timely data/compliance reporting.
• Serve as a liaison with the UW's other campuses as well as with state, federal agencies, statewide research organizations, private corporations, and with other higher education organizations.

Supervision & Management (15%):
• Hire, mentor, train, supervise, and evaluate the work of OIR staff.
• Manage office priorities and budget

REQUIREMENTS
Master's degree in data analytics or related field, or equivalent experience.
Five years of experience in institutional research (both quantitative and qualitative) within an institution of higher education or similar venue with evidence of increasing responsibility. 
Strong analytics, verbal, written, presentation, and organization skills.
Ability to collaboratively work with, and bring together, diverse people, ideas, and perspectives.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
